„Draškovičovský“ Manor House

„Draškovičovský“ Manor HouseČachtice is notable especially for so-called "Bloody Countess" Elizabeth Bathory. The castle and the village, however, have had their varied history, rich in many significant and interesting events. The history of Čachtice is remembered at a newly-opened exposition of Trenčín Museum that is placed inside the Draškovičovský manor house in Čachtice.

The exposition not only catches historical events, but also brings rich culture traditions and folk culture of the village nearer to the visitor. The exposition represents the collection of historic weapons, old documents, garment parts and jewels, the set of portraits of gentry families´ members; the exhibits found pending the historical and archeologic research and reconstruction works.

Čachtice folk culture is remembered by the ceramic vessels and different artifacts. The fame of Elizabeth Bathory, František Nádašdy´s wife, got too far away from the borders of Slovakia. Unfortunately, this happened because of her crimes that made her one of the worst murderers in all the history. Many literature, painting and even movies works of different art and historic value are devoted to her crimes. However, the facts are often lost beyond the drift of fantasy and legends. Elizabeth is known as the Lady of Čachtice, but she would commit her crimes in many parts of Austria-Hungary. Juridical protocols accuse her of several hundreds of sadistic murders of young maidens, coming not only from the vassal families, but also from the families of gentry. The Professional Court, presided over by Thurzo, had sentenced her to life confinement. She blew her mind out in Čachtice.
